Position: Corporate Account Director – CVS/Zinc/Aetna

Reports to: Senior Director, US Value, Access & Policy - Corporate Accounts

Location: Field, US


Working closely with the Senior Director, Corporate Accounts, the Corporate Account Director – CVS/Zinc/Aetna is responsible for access and reimbursement of Apellis products across all assigned payer accounts (national, regional and government) with primary focus on CVS, Zinc and Aetna and designated large regional payers. This role will have a tremendous impact in advancing Apellis's goal of bringing therapies to market for a variety of complement mediated diseases, including PNH, GA, C3G and IC-MPGN.

The CAD will serve as the lead point of contact for all Apellis business related to assigned accounts and managing business activities within that assigned account. Most critically, the CAD is responsible for securing and protecting patient access to Apellis products and ensuring their market performance. The CAD will also be responsible for developing mutually beneficial relationships that align strategically to the business needs of the customer and Apellis. They will develop, maintain, and execute account business plans that deliver on set goals and objectives. If applicable, the CAD will also lead all payer contracting and rebate validation efforts for Apellis products.

The CAD is also responsible for working with impacted Apellis colleagues to ensure the appropriate level of cross-functional support for their assigned accounts. The CAD will develop and execute pull-through objectives by strategically utilizing corporate resources. Additional responsibilities include, developing pull-through strategies through account and market insight, and providing Apellis leadership with market and account intelligence across all payer books of business: Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage CVS/Zinc/Aetna payer relationship and other designated large regional payer accounts per management discretion
  • Maximize patient access across the entire Apellis portfolio
  • Develop and grow assigned payer business partnerships and ensure profitable acceptance of Apellis products to achieve performance goals within assigned accounts
  • Analyze and understand local environment, account business, and align Apellis priorities to create account plans that deliver activities that contribute to the defined business goals and objectives
  • Monitor progress in assigned accounts and modify action plans as appropriate (monitor account contacts, plan execution, profit, value, volume growth, and market share)
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Key C-Suite and decision makers within an account (CEO, CFO, CMO, Dir.of Pharmacy, Dir. of Quality, Industry Relations, etc.) and continually seek to expand account penetration depth and breadth
  • Attend and actively engage in all relevant payer conferences, associations and meetings as determined by US VAP Leadership
  • Seek out opportunities for synergy and partnership to achieve mutually beneficial goals for both Apellis and the account through active and transparent account planning
  • Understand the business landscape and engage in key local, national, and international health care issues/strategies, account issues/trends and best practices to establish credibility beyond product and therapeutic areas.
  • Co-develop and manage execution of jointly developed account plans (holding account and Apellis responsible for plan execution)
  • Develop a strong alliance with field teams to ensure collaboration between access and pull-through initiatives
  • Work closely with other Corporate Account Directors on pull through for downstream plans
  • Collaborate closely with both the GA Field Reimbursement Team and the Rare Franchise Field Access Team to ensure access and reimbursement for patients to Apellis products
  • Actively maintain open communication throughout the organization especially regarding cross-functional account efforts
  • Review and analyze product performance at the account level and communicate account performance broadly with key internal stakeholders as appropriate
  • Engage payer across both pharmacy and medical benefits
  • Adhere to relevant Apellis and regulatory compliance guidelines

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years current or recent CVS/Zinc/Aetna payer experience.
  • Proactive, results oriented, self-starter motivated by the desire to do the right thing for the patients and their caregivers
  • Bachelor's degree in a related business or scientific discipline
  • Excellent planning, organization and time management skills including the ability to support and prioritize multiple projects
  • 10+ years of working in the pharma/biotech space, with at least 5 years in payer account management focused on large national & regional PBMs and payers
  • Experience in ophthalmology strongly preferred
  • Experience in rare disease
  • Strong knowledge of Buy and Bill
  • Experience in both medical and pharmacy benefits
  • Strong oral and written presentation skills and executive presence.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly visible and dynamic environment; able to work effectively with ambiguity and incomplete information.
  • Ability to influence and lead across functions; operate in a matrix environment.
  • Must be a highly cross functional team player that is willing to participle in activities that may not necessarily be in his/her core responsibilities
  • Must adhere to Apellis' core values, policies, procedures and business ethics
  • Working knowledge of all managed customer segments (National, regional and government).
  • Working knowledge of all channel segments with a strong expertise in Commercial and Medicare Advantage
  • Ability to travel at least 50% of the time
